Not long ago, I began a mission to finally organize all of the files on my computer. This might sound easy, but when you consider that I’m both a music junkie and a picture-taking maniac, and that my files are collected on a back-up hard drive in rather vague categories from all of the computers, phones, tablets and other devices I’ve ever owned– it begins to seem pretty daunting.
I made the mistake of downloading some free software that was supposed to instantly organize every type of file, delete duplicates and make my life into an easy, breezy happyworldland. I’ve since blocked the name of this lovely software from existence in my brain, but let me just say: it wasn’t pretty. It somehow replaced all of the music file names with one word smashed together gobbledygook. For instance, Sleater-Kinney – Dig Me out became SLEATERKINNEYDIGMEOUT. Being kind of an organizational neat freak, I cannot tell you how batty this drove me. And there was no quick-fix to undo it. If I wanted my files back to even their former messy glory I would have to manually rename each one…thousands.
I fairly jumped at the chance to review NeatMP3 Pro. I needed help badly! And you know what I got? An experience so perfect and easy that I had to keep checking to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating.
This is literally all I had to do: I opened the program, selected the folder containing the music I wanted organized, selected a new destination folder for the organized files (the software allows you to choose either to delete the original files later or automatically as it works), selected the format I wanted my files to be renamed in (it gives you several different options), pressed start and BOOM! All those thousands of files perfectly organized into folders by Artist and each file renamed according to the Artist – Title format I prefer.
The program also allows for more in-depth editing, including manually renaming tags. It automatically links you to the song you’re looking for if you’re missing the tag information and need help completing it. It works with both Windows and Mac operating systems and handles most types of audio files, including MP3, OGG, FLAC, WAV, MPC, AIFF, ASF, MP4.
I can’t even express how useful this software was, it saved me countless hours of re-organizing and frustration.
Luckily for you, one of my readers is going to get to experience NeatMP3 Pro for free! Yay!
