In this life there are so many things that hold us back. From hugely looming fears like death or major illness to much smaller worries such as shame or embarrassment. What I find so curious about the little fears is the way we forget how universal they are. And where we might be quick to sooth the anxiety of others, we can often judge ourselves so harshly.
The problem with this is that while we’re worrying and holding back and waiting for everything to be just so, we’re letting precious moments and experiences pass us by. What we really need to be doing is realizing that there will never be a perfect alignment of the planets and our blood cells and the tea leaves and the moon. The perfect time is this very second, right now. The spark of adventure and creativity and magic is inside of you, not in some convergence of circumstance. Reach out and run your fingers through the air, feel the crackle of electricity only you can create. The power of possibility.
For me, I love to dance and laugh and be silly with my friends. I adore throwing theme parties, where we all dress up and become masquerading ballroom dancers or feathered chorus girls or 1920’s flappers, shimmying through the Charleston in layers of sequins and fringe. I laugh so hard sometimes I’ll be left pressing my hands against my face, cheeks aching from smiling so much. It’s the best feeling.
What isn’t a great feeling is the other sensation that sometimes happens to us ladies when we get caught off guard by laughter: losing control and peeing a little. (Okay, sometimes a lot!). Nothing makes your face light up with embarrassment quite so quickly, taking a fun moment and turning it into shame.
Girlfriends, I am here to tell you that you are not alone. More than 35 million women experience this problem, which is known as stress urinary incontinence or SUI. It can be triggered by tons of things, mostly normal occurrences like sneezing, coughing, laughing or exercise. I know a lot of you have learned to deal with this by wearing pads or liners at all times. Or just making the stoic, I-will-not-laugh face that really just makes you look like you’ve been hittin’ the Botox too hard.
Poise has a cool new product that might help make your need for pads a thing of the past. It’s called Poise Impressa and it doesn’t absorb leaks, it helps keep them from happening to begin with! How awesome is that? To get you started, they offer a sizing kit with three different sizes- because all of our bodies are different. This will help you determine what size you need before you invest in a a full package. And each kit comes with a $4 off coupon towards your purchase of the size you need. You can also receive a $2 coupon by visiting their website. Poise Impressa can be worn for up to 8 hours a day and helps train your body to prevent leaks and accidents.
I can’t say enough good things about Impressa. I love how it empowers women to take back their lives, to be able to live loudly and fearlessly and without shame. I want all of us to be able to run and climb and jump, laugh until we fall over, laugh until our cheeks hurt and our hands reach up to hold in the mirth. Hair wild and eyes sparkling and utterly without fear. #TryImpressa, it just might change your life.
