Our family is filled with girls, from babies to teens, and every one of them has turned out to be a water nymph. Nightly baths that stretch into soggy playtime adventures involving every toy they own are usually the only way to calm them down before bed. And any body of water is seen as pure heaven, from murky ponds and lakes where they race from the shore to the buoys and back again, to the wild and roaring ocean where they collect shells and shark teeth and more sand than one small child’s bathing suit should really be able to hold, to pristine blue pools where they like to play diving games in which a toy or trinket is sunk to the bottom and they must race to retrieve it.
It should come as no surprise that we are huge fans of the Olympic Games, especially the swimming competitions. The 2016 Rio Olympic Games have given us plenty of reasons to stand up and cheer. Watching Michael Phelps in what may be his final Olympic swim, taking the gold medal for the butterfly leg of the men’s 4×100-meter medley relay was just phenomenal.
I think in a world filled with so much negativity and violence, the Olympics helps play an important role in teaching children to have pride for their country. It also teaches them that hard work and determination truly can allow you to achieve any goal or dream. As well, it shows kids a productive outlet for competition. We don’t need fists and knives and guns to fight for dominance, we can compete in a civil and good-natured manner that ends with all of us shaking hands and living to challenge each other again another day.
Watching powerful Olympians like Dana Vollmer juggle their training with parenthood is truly inspiring.
Teaching kids to enjoy physical fitness is so important, but I think swimming is one of the most important skills of all. Babies are natural swimmers and I highly recommend getting them into lessons as soon as possible. They will not only be safer, but you will foster a life-long love of watery sports. Who knows what fledgling dreams will spark and take flight, growing into huge accomplishments down the line?
Let’s power their dreams. Buy the brands that support Team USA by shopping for P&G products at Walmart.
For me, Walmart is our quickest and cheapest option for many of my family’s needs. Most of the household products they carry can be shipped conveniently directly to your door, with no hassle and no packing large purchases. P&G are also one of our most trusted brands, including products like Pampers® Swaddlers Diapers.
Whether after a swim class, or after a long playtime in the tub, I can always count on Pampers® Swaddlers Diapers to ensure that my water-logged baby can rest comfortably and will never be soggy outside of the pool. My favorite feature is that they are Blankie Soft™, meaning that the diapers wrap my babies in blanket-like coziness that will never irritate their delicate skin. The term blankie-softness alone just makes you feel cuddled and cozy. Swaddlers also have Extra Absorb Channels™ that are specially designed to help distribute wetness evenly for up to 12 hours of protection. They actually pull wetness and messes away from baby’s skin with an Absorb-Away Liner. Plus they have a wetness indicator that helps you know when it’s time for a diaper check!
