Brieftons InstantVeg Spiralizer Review + Giveaway! Ends 9/17

My dad has some kind of burning obsession with finding the holy grail of slicer-dicer-choppers. If you’ve as-seen-it-on-tv, it’s also probably seen the inside of his kitchen, and then MY kitchen when they invariably disappoint him and my mom foists them off on me. Me, I’m usually more of an old fashioned knife girl. Although I do have a crush on my mandolin slicer.

However, when I saw this InstantVeg Spiralizer from Brieftons, I knew I had to give it a try. Twisty, curvy veggies in paper thin slices? Anything that makes vegetables more fun and appealing for the girls to eat sounds like a good idea to me.

Right out of the box, I liked that the Spiralizer felt sturdy and substantial, not like it might collapse under the weight of a tomato. The device comes in several pieces but has an easy-to-follow instruction booklet for assembly. I admit I had a few “duh” moments trying to get the handle to fit on the wrong way. Probably actually reading the instructions would be a better plan!

The concept is simple and the slicer is easy to use. You simply open the lid and secure your chosen firm vegetable with the adjustable spiked disc. This holds the vegetable in place when you close the lid. A handy container attaches to the bottom of the slicer to catch the finished veggies as they spiral out of the top. Once the veggie is in place, you just turn the handle on top and BOOM! It actually works! Long spiral strands emerge from the bottom. If you want, you can leave the container off and simply slice  your veggies right into a pan. No batteries or cords to deal with, it’s purely human-powered.

I used a pretty small potato for my test run, so only the first strip really held together in a lengthy spiral. The pieces after that were sliced into super-thin wedge shapes. With a larger potato, you would get the full curly-fries effect. You can also adjust for the width of your slices depending on what you’re making.

Clean up was fairly simple. The whole device comes apart for washing. The package comes with a small bristly brush to help get into the nooks and crannies. This is great because the blades are seriously sharp- do not stick your fingers inside it while washing.

I can definitely see this becoming a staple in my kitchen and I may even have to break down and get one or my dad.

Brieftons wants you to experience the mealtime fun for yourself, so they’ve generously offered an InstantVeg Spiralizer to one of my readers! Woohoo!

  3. I have a traditional food processor but it is so cumbersome and this would be so much quicker and easier to use in it’s place. This would be great to use for homemade chips!
